My story
Starting out, I never had a slender figure. However, after becoming a mother, my weight dramatically increased, particularly following the birth of my third child. A primary issue was my irregular eating patterns, often skipping breakfast, a habit I now recognise as crucial. By lunchtime, I had already consumed multiple coffees, and dinner would frequently be delayed until after returning home from my children’s activities.
Despite experimenting with various diets, none proved sustainable over the long term. While they initially yielded some results, I inevitably fell back into old habits, and the weight gradually returned. Swollen feet became a concern, with my GP attributing it to my weight.
My daughter’s success with The 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan sparked discussions about my own participation. Despite needing to lose a significant amount of weight myself, I hesitated. Interestingly, it took my daughter breaking her arm and requiring my assistance for consultations to motivate me to begin my own weight loss journey.
Initially, the prospect of starting an 800-calorie regimen seemed daunting. However, with the support of my daughter and my Consultant Despina, it became manageable. Being significantly overweight initially resulted in rapid weight loss, followed by a steadier progression. When faced with a plateau, I introduced daily walks, which helped reignite my weight loss.
Even when dining out, I would conscientiously select healthier options, guided by Despina’s influence. My weight gain stemmed from a range of factors, including medication and menopause.
An incident where I could not find suitable shoes due to swollen feet served as a wake-up call. Recognising the need for action, I resolved to regain my mobility, especially with a grandchild on the way, to fully engage in enjoyable activities.
Now, I seize opportunities for activities like long walks and opt to walk home rather than using transportation, embracing a more active lifestyle.
