My story
2022 was a challenging year and I realised I was ‘self-medicating’ with excess food and alcohol. My weight was increasing, particularly around my middle and I was about to turn 60. I was in a management position in a stressful workplace with toxic upper management and I was pushed to the limit with staff shortages and was on call 24/7. I ended up needing stress leave and my GP put me onto medication for stress and blood pressure. I was heading down a dark path.
I celebrated my 60th birthday and 2 weeks later found out my wife Michelle had an aggressive breast cancer. Michelle had surgery in early December and around this time I went back to work, my physical and mental health was even worse as nothing had improved in the workplace, in fact, it had become worse. I knew something had to change. I resigned from my job, was offered a new job in a totally different workplace, with a totally different environment and decided I also needed to make some ‘physical’ changes.
In 2023 I started exercising every morning before work and, with Michelle’s guidance, put myself on The 1:1 Diet. We knew that life needed to be simplified while she was going through chemotherapy – not only did the products help with my weight loss, but it was also so easy at a stressful time! As I was exercising, I had 2 products per day (a 3rd if I was feeling the need) and a healthy evening meal of around 600cals. Michelle organised one of the ‘home delivery’ meal services, where we just had to prep and then cook, once again making life simple while she was undergoing treatment – I didn’t have to think about what we were going to eat or make bad choices.
At a time when we were going through the most stressful time of our lives, my life and health turned around and over the following months, there was no need for any medication, my weight dropped 15kgs and I’m fitter and healthier than I have been for years.
